Edmonston Wins Scratch Singles Title With 4-0 Demolition Over Reigning Champ Ingram

Firstly, apologises to all blog visitors for the delay for posting this, I've been on holiday for a couple of weeks and only just catching up with recent league events!

Saturday 25th April 2009 saw the Scratch Singles Final, sponsored by DAS Business Furniture take place at the Saffron Walden Snooker Club. In a repeat of last years final, Adam Ingram (Saffron Snooker Bandits) took on Darren Edmonston (Harlow War Memorial). Ingram, a five times winner of the title was hoping to add a sixth title, whilst on the other hand Edmonston, in his second final running was hoping that history wouldn't repeat itself as he had been defeated 4-0 last time by Ingram. Whilst Ingram almost walked into the final against his various opponents in the earlier rounds, as previously posted Edmonston won both his quarter final and semi final matches 3-2 so understandly went into the final with nothing to lose and briming full of confidence. Ingram, having secured the Handicaps Singles title only a few weeks earlier was hoping to be the first player to win both the Handicap Singles and Scratch Singles titles in the same season.

With plenty of spectators looking on, the best of seven frames match commenced and after a nervous start by both players and plenty of opening chances, Edmonston took the first frame. In the second, Edmonston settled into his normal stride quickly and knocked in a break of 52 which was enough to take him 2-0 up. Again, struggling to find any sort of form that he showed in the previous rounds of the Scratch and other tournaments this season, Ingram had opportunities but failed to convert, and a break of 45 helped Edmonston to a 3-0 lead. Those looking on couldn't believe what they were seeing. Ingram had been completely dominant in almost every tournament this season but in the finale of the season appeared to have run out of fuel and started to look like a players staring down the barrells of a rare defeat. Sensing victory was only one frame away and that Ingram was on the ropes, Edmonston wrapped up frame four to seal a memorable 4-0 victory over the five times former winner and defending champion on his home table.

Well done to Darren, and commiserations to Adam. Both players have been at the top of their respective games this season and are a great advert for the top standard that the league has to offer.

Regards,
AC

Ingram Breezes Into Scratch Final 3-0 And Edmonston Overcomes Huxter In Five Frame Thriller...And Smith Wins Scratch Plus Singles Title!

Both of the Scratch Singles semi-final matches were played this week. In the top half of the draw Adam Ingram booked his place in the final with a 3-0 victory over Stuart Turner, a repeat of last years semi-final. In the bottom half of the draw, Darren Edmonston was made to work alot harder for his place in the final, being made to play all five frames before finally securing a 3-2 victory over Russell Huxter.
The final then is a repeat of last season, not suprising as both Darren and Adam have been the top two players in the league this season. The final is to be played at the Saffron Walden Snooker Club on Saturday 25th April 2009, 7.30pm start. I'm sure both players would welcome your support. Wouldn't it be nice for one of them to knock in a century break in the final?

Mark Smith took victory in the Scratch Plus Singles Final on Friday this week with a 3-1 win over Terry Martin. Full report to follow...

I see the voting has been going well on whether the runners up spot in the league should go to a play-off between Snooker Reds and BSWMC A. It appears from the voting that the majority so far are not in favour of a play-off. We can only wait and see what the Committee decide!

It's been good to see so many comments on the various posts over the last week or so! In answer to a comment made by 'Spackers', which I can only assume is either Rob or Michael Spackman, the reason why all comments are moderated is that when the blog started I had some very childish and racist comments left by a couple of individuals that were totally inappropriate so unfortnately in order to maintain some decorum the moderating process had to be implemented. All comments that are left are posted that are not deemed to be offensive etc. etc.

Please continue to leave your comments, they are all valued as they are what this blog is all about, giving the players of the league an opportunity to voice their opinions and to kick ideas around.

Regards,
AC
